Privacy policy
Last updated: 2026
The short version. The tools run inside your browser. Microphone audio is never recorded or transmitted. We collect an email address only if you type one into a form. Advertising and analytics are provided by third parties who set their own cookies.
What this covers
This policy applies to gelvinguitars.com and any subdomain of it. It is written to be read, not to be defensible in court — if you need something more formal for a specific jurisdiction, ask.
Information you give us
- Contact form. Your name, email address and message. Used to reply to you. Kept until the conversation is finished, then deleted.
- Newsletter. Your email address and the list you joined from. Used to send that newsletter. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link that works immediately.
- Forum and chat accounts (when these launch). A username, an email address for password resets, and whatever you choose to post. Posts are public by design.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs. The web server records the requested page, timestamp, referring page, browser user-agent and IP address. These are used for security and for fixing broken pages. Logs are rotated and deleted on a short cycle.
- Analytics. Aggregate page-view statistics, so we know which guides are worth expanding.
- Advertising. Third-party ad networks may set cookies or similar identifiers to select and measure ads. This is described below.
What the tools do not do
The tuner requests microphone permission so your browser can analyse pitch locally. No audio is recorded, stored, uploaded or transmitted anywhere — the analysis happens on your device and the result is drawn on screen. The same is true of every other tool on the site: they run entirely client-side and send nothing back.
Advertising
This site is paid for by advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's ad settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies at aboutads.info. Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland will be shown a consent notice before any non-essential cookie is set, and can change that choice at any time from the cookie page.
Sharing
We do not sell personal information. Data is shared only with the service providers needed to run the site — the ad network, the analytics provider and the email delivery service — and only to the extent they need it to do their job.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to the address on the contact page and it will be done. If you are in the EEA or UK you have these rights under the GDPR; if you are in California, under the CCPA. We apply them to everyone regardless of where you live, because maintaining two standards is more work than maintaining one.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has submitted information, contact us and it will be removed.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes and a notice appears on the homepage for a fortnight.
